This proprietary cross S. ‘Velvet’ owes its name to its characteristics. The large cups produced by the plant have many standard hairs that make them feel soft. When you feel the cup, it feels like velvet. It is not only the hairs that stand out, as the brown-coloured veins of the cups are also characteristic of this plant. This trumpet pitcher is ideal for a windowsill, as the traps stay relatively low. Though its exact origination is unknown, it is likely to be a cross of Sarracenia leucophylla and other crosses, including probably Sarracenia purpurea venosa.
