Sarracenia purpurea (Purple Pitcher)

These short squat plants make a great contrast to the taller pitcher plants, and as the traps can last up to two years, they can be called evergreen. There are two main sub species, S. purpurea ssp purpurea or the Huntmans Cap is the extremely hardy one and a must for the outdoor bog barden.
