Dionaea muscipula ‘FLEXX’ is a wonderfully quirky Venus flytrap with a character all of its own. This unusual cultivar is loved for its flexible, large traps and it’s vigorous growth. With good light, the traps often develop rich red tones, making it an eye-catching addition to any carnivorous plant collection.
Like all Venus flytraps, ‘FLEXX’ is a true insect hunter. Its traps snap shut when tiny trigger hairs are touched, allowing the plant to digest flies and other small insects for nutrition. This clever mechanism means there’s no need for fertiliser or feeding by hand; the plant knows exactly what it’s doing.
Dionaea muscipula ‘FLEXX’ thrives in a bright, sunny spot and enjoys plenty of light to keep its traps strong and colourful. Always use rainwater or distilled water and keep the compost consistently moist, never dry. It prefers a free-draining carnivorous plant compost and should never be watered with tap water. In winter, the plant enters its natural dormancy period, when growth slows and traps may die back. This is completely normal and essential for healthy regrowth in spring.
