Sarracenia ‘Barba Red’

Sarracenia ‘Barba Red’ is an extraordinary trumpet pitcher plant known for its distinctive red “lobster-trap” mechanism to capture prey. Its tubular pitchers have nectar-secreting glands that lure insects inside. Once they enter, the insects are guided further down into the trap, where a sticky, enzyme-filled liquid awaits them at the bottom, digesting them to nourish the plant. Native to the U.S., Sarracenia thrives in wet, marshy environments. It’s very easy to cultivate and can flourish in a cool windowsill or an unheated greenhouse. For optimal care, keep it out of direct sunlight and maintain consistently moist soil. Watering should be done with distilled or rainwater, as tap water may contain harmful lime and chlorine.
