Epiphyllum ‘Leon Herick’ is a spectacular epiphytic cactus best known for its dramatic, large flowers and elegant, flattened stems. Unlike desert cacti, this species originates from tropical forests, where it grows on trees rather than in soil. Its long, leaf-like stems cascade gently, giving it a lush and graceful appearance that works beautifully in hanging pots or on shelves.
The real showstopper is its flowering. When mature and well cared for, Epiphyllum ‘Leon Herick’ produces exceptionally large, fragrant blooms in soft to vibrant tones, usually appearing in late spring or summer. These flowers are often short-lived but unforgettable, making the plant a true collector’s favourite.
This plant prefers bright, indirect light and should be protected from strong, direct sun. Water more regularly than desert cacti, keeping the compost lightly moist during the growing season but never waterlogged. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between watering, and reduce watering in winter. It thrives in a free-draining epiphytic or orchid-style compost.
