Mammillaria hahniana is a beautifully soft-looking cactus, often nicknamed the “Old Lady” cactus because of its dense covering of fine, white, hair-like spines. Beneath this fluffy appearance sits a rounded, compact cactus that stays neat and well-shaped, making it a favourite for windowsills, shelves and small plant displays.
One of its most charming features is its flowering habit. In spring or early summer, mature plants often produce a crown of vivid pink to purple flowers around the top, creating a striking contrast with the silvery white spines. Despite its delicate look, Mammillaria hahniana is a tough and resilient plant.
It thrives in bright light and enjoys some gentle direct sun. Water sparingly, only when the compost has fully dried out, and keep it almost dry during winter.
