Sarracenia purpurea ssp. venosa

This plants makes a lovely clump of pink bulbous traps with tall dark pink flowers. Virtually evergreen the old traps start to die back as the new traps grow. As this is a more southerly subspecies it is not as hardy as S. purpurea ssp purpurea. The height of the traps is only about 15cm making it an excellent windowsill plant for a sunny or shady windowsill though the traps wont reach such a deep pinky red in a shadier spot. Rightly an extremely popular plant. If grown indoors you can put some rainwater inside the traps which helps digestion and fly catching .
